MOP CHENILLE by HENDS
MOP chenille is designed for tying nymph bodies, especially realistic imitations of caddisfly larvae, but it is also suitable for tying dry caddisflies and stoneflies. When working with chenille, it is important to first seal or glue both ends to prevent the material from fraying.
The chenille body is not tied directly on the hook (although this is possible). Instead, it is formed off the hook, similar to the way extended bodies for large mayflies are made. When tying a dry caddisfly, you can gently heat the chenille with a lighter – it will shrink, stiffen, and gain a smaller, more compact diameter.
The chenille has a diameter of 3 mm and a length of 1 meter. The exceptional effectiveness of flies tied from this material comes from the fact that the body sits off the hook, allowing it to move naturally and work freely in the water, which is highly attractive to fish. The material combines colored fibers with darker components and subtle reflective fibers, creating a highly convincing imitation of a caddis larval case.
